Thousands of comic fans are expected to converge on Magna next month for a special convention.
The ‘Yorkshire Cosplay Con’ event called ‘The Magna-ificent 7’ this year, is a family friendly comic convention, which is the seventh of its kind after starting in early 2010. It is the first time it has been held at Magna.
The convention is aimed at comic book, sci-fi and video game fans. Special guests include actors and actresses who have had small parts in popular film and television franchises such as Star Wars, Batman, Harry Potter, Game of Thrones and Doctor Who.
Kitty Furniss, Cosplay Con event organiser, said: “The Yorkshire Cosplay Con aims to unite a whole range of fandoms across Yorkshire and the surrounding areas. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in on the madness.
“Dressing up is optional but it adds to the overall atmosphere of the event and makes for some great photo opportunities, so we encourage everyone to don their costumes and become their favourite character for the afternoon.”
The event, which costs £9 per adults and £6.50 for children, will run from noon to 6pm on Saturday 4 April.
There will also be photo opportunities with the Tardis from Doctor Who, and the family couch from The Simpsons. A variety of stalls and competitions will be running on the day. Food and drink will be available to purchase in Magna’s dining area in the Red Hall.
Donna Shaw, marketing co-ordinator at Magna, said: “Cosplay Con is a family friendly event and has been a huge success at other Yorkshire venues in the past, so it’s great to bring it to Magna this year.
“It’s great to have special guests who played small parts in big franchise films coming to Magna and joining in on the fun with their many fans.”
Magna, which is housed in the former Templeborough steel works, can cater for between 5 and 5,000 people.
In the last year it has hosted everything from dance events to business conferences.
As well as being a corporate venue, Magna is also an award-winning visitor attraction with more than 100 hands-on exhibits designed to explore the four elements of air, water, earth and fire, and it hosts regular school-trips.
