Land Based Studies students attended a number of talks by local and national organisations to give them an insight into the industry.
The students received information about various progression routes and career paths available to them. Organisations which gave talks at the College’s Wigfield Farm site include Barnsley Council, Wentworth Castle Gardens, Churchfield Veterinary Centre, RSPCA and National Farmers Union. The students also received information from an Environmental Consultant and a member of the College’s Employer Responsiveness Team who provide information about Apprenticeships.
Animal Care student Abeda French said: “I enjoyed the talks as it’s great to learn from someone who has made a career in the Land Based Industries.
“It was really useful to hear about how the representatives have progressed and I was given to opportunity to speak to them one to one at the end of the talks to ask them any questions I had.”
Guest speaker from Wentworth Castle Gardens Michael Klemperer added: “This was a brilliant way to raise awareness of the land based industries as it is a huge industry which has many opportunities.”
Students can progress to an HND in Animal Management though the University Campus Barnsley which will allow them to continue studying at Wigfield Farm.
